Walking in EnglandWalking in England is an exciting experience. England is a beautiful country where you can walk and enjoy of the surrounding area at the same time, offering an immense variety of landscapes and environments in a relatively small space. The countryside is covered by a network of footpaths and tracks for walking with many places for walking in the country, which may be called Hillwalking or Fellwalking in some areas. Some areas to walk are listed below. Lake District is England's largest National Park and the heart and soul of walking in England, with a wonderful landscape of high fells, rocky crags, lush dales, long still lakes and attractive towns and villages in the central part of Cumbria. Yorkshire Dales is a beautiful National Park and provides provides some of the best scenic walking in the country. The Cotswolds is a classic English countryside and excellent for shorter walks, covering about 800 square miles in six counties of England. Peak District is famous in the UK, as walking country. Within easy distance from Manchester, Sheffield and the Midlands there is much for the visitor to see. Pennine Way is a long distance walk with 268 miles, and a classic route that follows the backbone of England. Crossing three National Parks the major challenge to walkers is often the weather as the wild upland moors are crossed.
